Scary Fold-Out Lantern Card

I love creating FANCY FOLD projects; especially creating holiday cards that can be opened and displayed. This is a Kat Chancellor “exclusive” project that opens like a card to then fold out and make a lantern for display!

I’ve created a short VIDEO tutorial to follow and offer a coordinating Project PDF that features the SCARY CUTE & BEWITCHING Bundles from the Mini-Catalog (July-December 2022). Have FUN! Leave a comment and please LIKE and SHARE!

FEATURED PROJECT

I love the witch’s boots from the BEWITCHING stamp set dangling from pennant die cut from the SCARY SILHOUETTES DIES part of the SCARY CUTE bundle.
Unwrap the Black & White Gingham Ribbon to reveal the inside.
A witch’s hat stamped, punched, and colored with Stampin’ Blends Markers. Elegantly embellished with a strip of Metallic Mesh Ribbon.
TIP: If you leave some room by not putting glue along the LEFT edge of the inside (Whisper White) panel…you can TUCK the end and create a LANTERN. Go to my ONLINE store and fill your cart with all the scary fun to create this spooktastic project.

3D Project: Gatefold Accordion Album

Here is a 3D project for creating a 6 x 5.25″ album for photos or scrapbooking. Make and give as a gift with photos as a special memento. Or, make and give as a wedding, baby shower, or anniversary gift for the recipient to embellish for a cherished remembrance of a special day.

This is a very versatile project and takes advantage of utilizing SU coordinating products creatively. It’s great for using your craft room “stash”. In fact, I used some retired DSPs and then embellished them with current products from the Annual Catalog.

A Video Tutorial and a 3D Project PDF are available below.

FEATURED PROJECT

Products featured are the Friends Are Like Seashells stamps, Seaside Seashells dies, and Seashells 3D Embossing folders. The sentiments are from the Peaceful Moments Cling and the Daisy Lane Cling (RET) stamps.

This was my first effort. Recommend using a RANDOM DSP pattern since it is challenging to try to align a plaid or strip pattern perfectly. I also used my favorite SUMMER SHADOW DIES.
SUMMER SHADOW DIES using Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral, Basic White, Old Olive, and Mossy Meadow card stock. For my last couple of albums, I backed the flowers with GOLD FOIL cardstock for an added glimmer.

FANCY FOLD MOTION CARD: Venetian Blinds Card featuring SALE-a-bration Products

This is a fancy folds “motion card”. The front flap lifts like a Venetian blind — it’s so much fun. I use several products featured during the 2022 SALE-a-brations offering.

WONDERFUL WORLD stamp and Designer Series Paper (DSP) is FREE with a $100 qualifying order. Sentiment from the HONEYBEE HOME stamps set. Glittered Organza Ribbon.
WONDERFUL WORLD DSP creates the Venetian shade front.
Gently pull the ribbon to reveal the inside. Tie the ribbon to display the card.
Using the reverse pattern from the WONDERFUL WORLD with Glitter Organza Ribbon.
2021-2023 IN COLOR 6×6 DSP in Polished Pink is used for the Venetian Shade that is embellished with FOR EVERYTHING FANCY Sequins. The HIPPEST HIPPOS & HIPPO Dies are stamped with Memento Black ink and colored with Stampin’ Blends. Our dancing Hippo is glued on a piece of embossed Basic White card stock that creates a textured background. Soft Sea Foam ribbon is used to lace the accordion folds to create the Venetian blind movement.

  • Wonderful World 12″x12″ DSP (SALE-a-bration)
  • Hippest Hippos Stamp (SALE-a-bration)
  • Hippo Dies (SALE-a-bration)

  • CARD STOCK:
    • 5.5″x 4.25″ Base Card (Orchid Oasis, Highland Heather, Petal Pink)
    • 5.25″ x 4″ Background in Basic White and embossed with a mini-embossing folder
    • 5.25″ x 4″ DSP (Wonderful World / 2021-2023 IN COLOR DSP)
      • Score — .5″ increments — along the 5.25″ length
      • the TOP is the .25″ edge that will be used to attach to the card with Tear Tape
      • Mark with pencil .25″ from the 5.25″ edge to align where to punch holes
    • Basic Black / Basic White to stamp/heat emboss sentiments

  • EMBELLISHMENTS
    • Cut 36″ of coordinating ribbon (Soft Sea Foam Seam Binding Ribbon)
      • Do not recommend using the Glittered Organza ribbon. It works well in the tutorial, but the ribbon is very stiff and abrasive. It will cause more wear and tear on the Venetian blind than a softer ribbon.
      • Knot or add beads to the end of the ribbon to avoid fraying
    • For Everything Fancy Sequins (Pink and Green)

Splendid Thoughts: Layering & Stamping Techniques

What really attracted me to this Suite was its versatility. You can stamp, layer with die-cuts, or combine the SPLENDID DAY suite of products to create beautiful cards.

Here I will demonstrate how you can stamp and then use the dies to create a background by layering.

One of the features of the stamp set is that the FILL STAMP does not align perfectly with the image. This was frustrating for one of my clients. I demonstrated a technique using the FILL STAMP and several ink colors to create a lovely tonal effect.

The FILL STAMP (YELLOW HIGHLIGHT) does not match the stamp image.

To create the perfect background, I started out using the ORNATE LAYERS DIES (retired) and applied the details DIE CUTS from the SPLENDID STEMS DIES to create a layered/monochromatic background. I also created a version using the LAYERING CONTOURS Dies to show off the versatility between an ornate and simplistic approach. The Layering Contours Dies are available in the Annual Catalog (click BUTTON for complete product inventory for this project).

Go to my video tutorial for the detailed steps. Please LIKE and share and leave a comment.

The Framed Rosette Card

Create a “WOW” card! This is an Avid Stamper’s dream card. But any stamper can learn how to assemble a simple rosette to create a striking focal point. Then embellish with die-cut flowers and leaves on a textured background using (my favorite) Summer Shadows Dies & and use the decorative masking techniques to create a richly textured background. You can tailor the card to your taste and preference. It was inspired by Debbie P. from the UK and a featured artist from Practical Publishing “craft” magazine.

I took the original card and updated the design to accommodate SU products. My design includes creating a half rosette using colorful Designer Series Paper (DSP) — both a floral and patterned DSP version. You must use 12″X12″ DSP and begin by cutting the paper 3″ x 12″ wide. You will need a scoring tool to score @ .25″ inch intervals. Start with one mountain fold and one valley fold across the length of the DSP, then fan out to create half a rosette and glue with a glue gun.

Cut a “frame” from gold/brushed metallic cardstock and use this as the pattern.

My ONLINE STORE has all the materials you will need for this project.

Now, refer to the Video Tutorial for all the assembly and details.

Hello Ladybug: 5″x7″ Step Ladder Card

Here is a fun fancy fold card that is deceptively easy. I was inspired to create this for my niece who just left for her summer job and will be starting college in Colorado soon after. Seems time just creeps up on us all and having lost the “Covid-19” years without the usual family gatherings has left more of a gap of missing her all the more. She left too soon.

The Hello Ladybug bundle is perfect. She’s always loved ladybugs and once gifted me a rock she painted as a Ladybug when she was in grade school. I cherish it and it always brings me a smile. I’m sure this will bring a smile and is something she can put in her room to remind her that “You’re on my mind and in my heart” from the GOOD FEELINGS stamp set.

Just follow the instructions and video tutorial for all the steps.

More Card Inspiration

This Father’s day card used several retired SU products since it was designed for my Uncle who is a car enthusiast. Can you recognize the products featured? I used the RIDE WITH ME & GEARED UP GARAGE bundles, DRIVING BY stamp, and the dog from BIKE RIDE—all retired and classic sets. The plaid DSP is from last season’s SALE-A-BRATION Christmas offering.
This card features the DRAGONFLY GARDEN Stamp Set and DRAGONFLIES Punch, both available in the new AC. The DSP is from the retired SALE-A-BRATIONS Daffodil paper with Pear Pizzazz and Daffodil Delight cardstock. The Honeybee Bloom Dies were used to cut out the sprigs.

Paper Pumpkin Alternative Project – Boxes, Bags & Tags

The May 2022 PP features the new IN COLORS from the May 2022-April 2023 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. I LOVE the new colors and it gave me inspiration for my “Give a SMILE – one card at a time” program where I love making and taking paper crafting “JOY” to the University of New Mexico Children’s Hospital! This is part of my paper crafting “journey” with Stampin’ Up! If you have materials like ribbon, card stock, and DSP…use them to donate and give joy to your community. Read on for inspiration for your paper crafting journey!

This week’s Video Tutorial features all the May 2022 PP Kit material. I’ll demonstrate how to use the materials and be creative to make some boxes from card blanks, bags from envelopes, and various tags from anything left over. Please leave a comment and share! Thank you for joining me!

Create BOXES using card blanks!

Use the white card blanks to create these treat boxes.
  • Just take the card blank and cut it in half at the fold line.
  • Determine which piece you want for the box “top”. The “top” will always be slightly larger than the box bottom. Set it aside.
  • Take the piece for the box bottom and (using your trimmer) cut off about 1/8″ from the top and side.
  • Using your Score Board — score both pieces at 3/4″ around all sides. Follow the video tutorial directions for assembling your boxes.

Create BAGS and TAGS!

  • Dis-assemble an envelop
  • Re-assemble “inside-out” taking care to only show the smooth seams.
  • Glue
  • Select the top of the bag and cut the envelope seam to create an opening
  • Using your Score Board — place the open “top” of the envelope at the top of the scoreboard and score 1″ along the side and bottom of the envelope bag.
  • Refer to the video tutorial and score a diagonal line to miter a bottom fold.

Fancy Fold: Inside Out Card

This fancy fold technique is called the Inside Out Card. The card design was inspired by Barbara VanDenBoom at Paper Tree using the FRIENDS ARE LIKE SEASHELLS stamp, embossing folder and dies.

When coordinating DSP for Stampin’ Up! suites are retired and no-longer available — it can offer a challenge when trying to create a background. Select a harmonious color palette of ocean colors to create a striking under-the-sea background that is perfect for the seashell theme. For more inspiration, I provide another example for how I for used simple emboss and coloring techniques to create a stunning background for this deceptively easy “fancy fold” card.

Another Idea…

I used the CELEBRATE SUNFLOWERS stamp set on Crumb Cake (Very Vanilla Base Card & Early Espresso Mat) card stock to gold emboss and color with Watercolor Pencils and Whisper White ink.

Coloring Techniques: Using PAPER, INK, STAMPS, and Dies

I’ve just moved into a new house! As of yet, I still don’t have easy access to my stamping supplies. All I have is paper, ink pads, stamps, and dies.

What to do?

Well, because all I have on hand is paper, stamps, inks, and dies I’m going to have to get creative. This is a great opportunity to be a bit frugal and just use what I have in my craft room.

So here is a project using Basic White Cardstock and using an inking technique to design some background cardstock and then I use another inking technique for creating the flowers and leaves. I love the color variations that I’m able to create and really add to the beauty of the flower arrangements. I used coordinating cardstock for the BASE CARD to frame each bouquet. Watch my My Video Tutorial for all the steps. Thank you for stopping by and please leave a comment! Cheers, Kat

Fancy Fold – Flower POP-UP Card

Thanks to Sam Calcott UK — Mixed Up Crafts– for this project. It’s a clever flower bouquet pop-up card that doesn’t need any fancy dies except for those needed for embellishments.

Here I present three versions using Stampin’ Up! products for Mother’s Day and as a Congratulatory Card.

I have also produced a VIDEO TUTORIAL with step-by-step directions.

Mother’s Day Card

Create the card front by laying DSP strips and adding DIE CUT lettering using the AMAZING THANKS Dies. DSP strips should coordinate with inside blossoms.
Non-directional DSP from the SUNSHINE & RAINBOWS 6×6″ DSP pack from Sale-a-brations. Here is use the Medium DAISY Punch for my flower centers. I tried to add a glitter center…but the centers were difficult to glue so I don’t recommend it. Sentiment from the DAFFODIL DAYDREAMS stamp set.

Congratulations Card

This is a special card made for a family member who is getting their degree this spring! I wanted something special that she wouldn’t expect since she is very familiar with my work and receives lots of my cards.

DSP is from the SUNSHINE & RAINBOWS DSP with GOLD FOIL layering and embellishments from the ABSTRACT BEAUTY EPHEMERA PACK. Just added some GENIAL GEMS as accents. AMAZING THANKS DIES for sentiment.
Just love the bright colors of Calypso Coral and Melon Mambo for the blossoms. All the cards used the BOUQUET OF LOVE Embossing Folder.

Another Mother’s Day Card

Here’s an idea you can adapt to any card front. I love the playful directions with the horizontal, vertical, and diagonal patterns crated with the ribbon.
I decided to try another DSP pattern using the FRIENDLY HELLO and colored cardstock for the inside embossed layer with POOL PARTY.

Video Tutorial

Here are some basic dimensions — but details are presented through-out the video.

Card Stock:

– 6″x12″ Basic White cardstock (score at 6″”)

– 2 pieces of 5.75-inch square Pool Party (color that coordinates with DSP) for inside Embossed layer

– 2 pieces of 5.75-inch square FOIL (I used SILVER)

– 2 pieces of 5.5-inch square DSP (Friendly Hello 12″x12″ Paper Pack from Sale-a-brations)

Flowers:

– 7 pieces of NON-DIRECTIONAL patterned DSP cut 4.75″ sq.

CARD FRONT LAYERS:

-Silver FOIL about 4.25″ x 5″

-DSP strips are 1 3/16 x 4 3/4″ (cut 3)

Having Fun with Easter Friends

This week I sat down and had fun with the EASTER FRIENDS stamp set. I love the line art that lends itself to easy coloring using watercolor pencils and metallic watercolor paints. View my VIDEO TUTORIAL for all the steps and enjoy the gallery of cards listed below.

All base cards are the standard 5.5″x4.25″, the layers are either 5.25″x 4.25″ or have been die cut using the RECTANGLE STITCHED FRAMELITS (using graduated sizes) and the SCALLOPED CONTOURS DIES. The image is stamped with BLACK STAZON INK on either Watercolor Paper or Shimmery White card stock using the Stamparatus since it guarantees a perfect image every time. All these products are available on my ONLINE STORE.

While I demonstrate how to use watercolor pencils and “my favorites” metallic watercolor paint; I also demonstrate how I choose the background layers to coordinate nicely with the final images. Lastly, check out my FAVORITE PRODUCTS link below to purchase the Metallic Watercolors, gel pens, shadow accent pens, and masking POST IT notes as well as other great crafting tools.

Hope you enjoy it…please leave a comment!

Watercolor pencils – Calypso Coral, Melon Mambo, and Flirty Flamingo using the Water Painters. The background layers are created using strips of 1″ DSP from the SUNSHINE & RAINBOWS paper pack. The grass is stamped with Pear Pizzaz ink on Watercolor Paper. Black & White Gingham ribbon adds the perfect accent.
Watercolor Pencils – Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, and Early Espresso on Shimmery White cardstock. The background layer is Brushed Metallic cardstock using the Rectangle Stitched Framelits and Bumblebee cardstock with BB gingham ribbon.
Using the METALLIC Watercolor paints with a Water Painter — sparkling champagne, shiny copper, and metallic black are used to create an image that catches the light and shimmers. The card stock used is Shimmery White cardstock which is perfect for watercolor. The base card is Highland Heather CS and layered with Silver Foil cut with the Rectangle Stitched Framelits.
Watercolor Pencils – Balmy Blue and Pacific Point on Shimmery White Card Stock. The background is Basic Black CS and a piece of DSP from the Sunshine & Rainbow DSP in Flirty Flamingo with coordinating ribbon. The grass is stamped with Shaded Spruce ink.

More Ideas…

This was my first bunny — a champagne bunny using the Metallic Watercolor paints on Shimmery white CS. I used the Scalloped Contours Dies and threaded the Bumblebee Gingham for accents. Pear Pizzaz is used to stamp the grass and then any sparkling embellishments give it extra pop. It really shimmers in the sun.
Get adventurous — I used BLACK WATERCOLOR PAPER embossed the image with GOLD embossing powder and then used metallic watercolor paints for a different look.

Fancy Folds with the Flowering Tulips Dies

I have so many followers as AVID STAMPERS that love “fancy folds” projects. This project is called a CURVED FOLD CARD. When the tabs are fitted together the card creates a curved dimensional front that stands freely on a shelf or a mantle. My Newsletter Subscribers for March got a FREE PROJECT PDF.

I’ve also produced a video on how to use the Tulip Dies to build the tulips needed for this project. Check out the additional link below.

Colors using EVENING EVERGREEN and CALYPSO CORAL and DSP from Daffodils Afternoon

Tonal Stamping using the WAVE of INSPIRATION “wave” stamp

I’m back with the “big wave” stamp from the Waves of Inspiration Collection. I love exploring all the ways you can use a stamp to create different techniques.

In this case, the Two-Tone technique uses two complementary colors to create some depth (Balmy Blue, and Misty Moonlight) when added directly to the stamp. When the ink is applied using an Aqua Painter, you get an even more ethereal effect. Both variations of the same technique are worthy of some creative exploration — especially with this collection. Please check out my short Video Tutorial.

I applied ink using a Water Painter to create an ethereal wave effect.

NOT ALWAYS PERFECTION: We may strive for perfection — but it is not always what we get. We all make those mistakes or “boo-boos” when stamping. Rather than get flustered during my tutorial — I worked through the problem to give you some ideas on possible solutions to a very common stamping problem — the ink “halo” created from too much ink on a rubber stamp.

The ink “halo” created from a seagull stamp is somewhat camouflaged– : )
Another color combination — Pacific Point and Pool Party.
