The Magic of Color Theory:

The key to these projects is the selection of colors using a Color Wheel that promises a harmonious palette. I choose Analogous colors, such as Melon Mambo, Pretty-In-Pink, and Flirty Flamingo that provide the perfect contrast for the rose petals. Additionally, looking across the color wheel — I chose complementary colors Shaded Spruce and Shy Shamrock for the leaves and stems. It made the project pop! I cover all of this in my Video Tutorial linked below.

Watercolor Technique

For a soft effect, start with watercolor paper and the Layering Beauty decorative masks. Follow the steps outlined in my VIDEO TUTORIAL for ordering, aligning, and securing each of the five masks to prevent shifting.

Using water painters, apply a wash beginning with Flirty Flamingo, Pretty-In-Pink, and Melon Mambo from the ink pads. As you remove each mask, heat set using your HEAT TOOL for a flawless finish. Do the same for the leaves & stems using Shy Shamrock and Shaded Spruce inks.

Blending Brush Technique

Transform Basic White Cardstock with the Layering Beauty decorative masks and blending brushes. Use the same colors – Melon Mambo, Pretty-In-Pink, and Flirty Flamingo. Apply pigment from the ink-pad with a gentle hand, building layers as each mask is added for depth and richness.

My video tutorial will also explore how to create a design vocabulary for your final composition, enhancing the beauty of your rose images.

Curvilinear Design Element :

Incorporate curvilinear patterns to complement the organic shapes of the rose petals. The 3D DISTRESS TILE Embossing Folder is perfect with floral motifs, swirls, and loops that add a sense of movement and grace to the composition as a background layer.

Composition: When arranging your layers of color, patterns, and textures, think about the principles of design such as balance, contrast, and rhythm. Create a focal point with your rose image and use the surrounding elements to frame and accentuate it. Experiment with different arrangements until you find a composition that feels balanced and harmonious.

By applying a design vocabulary to your card-making, you can create stunning compositions that enhance the beauty of your rose images add depth and dimension to your cards, and let your creativity blossom!

With the Layering Beauty Bundle and these techniques, you can create masterpieces that will impress and delight. Experiment with colors and techniques, and let your creativity soar. Embrace the beauty of color and watch your creations come to life!

Happy crafting!

Watercolor Technique

The transparency of the inks and variegation (irregular patches & streaks) when ink is applied to watercolor paper is the beauty and uniqueness of the watercolor technique.

Blending Brush Technique

Decorative Masks are also known as “stencils” in the artwork. They are beautiful for the ability to create crisp lines. The effect can be created repeatedly.
