๐ Happy Grunge Halloween Treat Box | Stampinโ Up! Suitcase Treat Boxes Tutorial
If you love all things spooky and stylish, youโre going to have a blast with this weekโs project โ the Happy Grunge Halloween Treat Box! using Stampinโ Up!โs Suitcase Treat Boxes, Iโm showing you how to turn a simple kraft box into a mini masterpiece with layered inking, texture, and shimmer effects perfect for the Halloween season.
โจ The Inspiration
This project blends a little grunge, a touch of glow, and a whole lot of Halloween charm! I wanted something that looked like it came straight out of a witchโs apothecary โ weathered, worn, and full of mysterious glow. The suitcase-style box makes the perfect base, while our layering inks and pastes create a dimensional, textured surface thatโs both eerie and elegant.
๐จ Supplies & Color Palette
Base Product:
- Suitcase Treat Boxes (Stampinโ Up!)
Inks:
Using my trusty Paper Pumpkin ink spots, I blended:
- Pecan Pie
- Pebbled Path
- Blackberry Bliss
- Calypso Coral
- Old Olive
- Copper Clay
- Pretty Peacock
For an accent tone, I used Cajun Craze, which adds a perfect pop against the darker hues.
๐๏ธ Coloring & Texturing Techniques
To create the signature grunge look, I combined multiple inking techniques:
- Direct-to-surface swiping with the ink spots adds that rough, rustic finish.
- Select pieces to Ink with Elements of Text stamp set.
- Select pieces to add Ranger Distress Grit Paste in GLOW through a stencil to give a ghostly shimmer when the lights go out!
๐ก Tip: If you donโt have grit paste, you can substitute Stampinโ Up!โs Shimmer White Embossing Paste for a sparkly 3D effect.
๐งช Ink & Spray Tips
Because shimmer sprays are water-soluble, use Staz-On Ink for your stamping if you plan to spray over your finished piece โ it wonโt run!
If youโre skipping the shimmer spray, Memento Black Ink works perfectly for images and crisp tag details.
๐ธ๏ธ The Details: Grunge & Tags
I used The Element of Text stamp set to add background texture โ this is what really sells the โold, weatheredโ vibe. Layer it randomly for that distressed feel.
For the tags, I used the Fright Night stamp set โ such a fun mix of spooky sentiments and designs! You can cut them using the coordinating dies or try my inking-and-snipping technique shown in the video tutorial for a more organic, worn look.
๐ท๏ธ Finishing Touches
Once everythingโs dry, assemble your box, tie coordinating Ribbon with your finished tags. The result? A handcrafted Halloween treat box thatโs part vintage curiosity, part gothic glam โ perfect for candy favors, small gifts, or your holiday table!
