Double the Creativity with Layering, Metallic Accents & Beautiful Autumn Details

What happens when you combine a beautiful retired Paper Pumpkin kit with a little imagination and some favorite crafting supplies? You can double your creative possibilities!

I’m revisiting Stampin’ Up!’s September 2025 Fall for Toile Paper Pumpkin Kit, transforming the supplies originally designed for nine cards into 18 handmade cards featuring beautiful layers, elegant metallic finishes, and creative embellishments.

Even though Fall for Toile is now retired, these techniques can be applied to so many other Paper Pumpkin kits and cardmaking projects.

A Fresh Look at Fall for Toile

One of the things I love about Paper Pumpkin is the opportunity to go beyond the original project instructions.

The kits provide coordinating elements that make cardmaking convenient, but there’s no reason to stop with the suggested designs!

For this project, I challenged myself to stretch the materials and create twice as many cards by incorporating coordinating cardstock, specialty papers, and metallic embellishments.

The result? Eighteen cards with rich autumn colors, shimmering details, and beautiful layered designs.

Adding Elegance with Hot Foil

One of my favorite enhancements was incorporating the Stampin’ Up! Hot Foil System with the Echo of Details Hot Foil Dies.

I used both Gold and Copper Hot Foil to introduce beautiful metallic details that complement the autumn-inspired designs.

Gold creates an elegant, luminous finish, while copper adds a warm richness that’s especially beautiful for fall.

Hot foiling is a wonderful way to elevate your handmade cards, whether you’re creating a simple greeting or an elaborate layered design.

Layering for Dimension and Interest

Layering is one of the easiest ways to transform a basic card into something special.

For these alternatives, I incorporated:

  • Early Espresso Cardstock for rich contrast
  • Basic Beige Cardstock for soft, neutral layers
  • Basic White Cardstock for additional cardmaking possibilities
  • Gold Shimmer Vellum for a delicate metallic accent
  • Foiled Frames & Labels Ephemera for elegant decorative details

Combining different textures, finishes, and cardstock colors creates visual interest without overwhelming the original kit designs.

Ways to Add Shimmer and Shine

Snip, Stamp and Re-Design

Hot foil wasn’t the only metallic technique featured in these cards!

I also experimented with Metallic Texture Rub-Ons to introduce decorative accents and the Crisp Cantaloupe and Golden Glow Shimmer Brushes to add subtle sparkle.

These products offer different ways to enhance a design, from delicate highlights to more noticeable metallic details.

The 2″ Circle Punch provided another versatile tool for creating circular elements and incorporating additional layers.

Together, these supplies demonstrate how a few thoughtful additions can completely change the appearance of a card.

Why Revisit a Retired Paper Pumpkin Kit?

Just because a kit is retired doesn’t mean its creative possibilities have ended!

In fact, revisiting older kits is a wonderful way to:

  • Use supplies you’ve been saving for a special project.
  • Experiment with new tools and techniques.
  • Combine older products with newer crafting supplies.
  • Create more cards without purchasing another complete kit.
  • Discover fresh ways to use your existing collection.

And perhaps best of all, the techniques you learn can be applied to future Paper Pumpkin kits, too!
