Tonal Stamping using the WAVE of INSPIRATION “wave” stamp

Spread the love!

I’m back with the “big wave” stamp from the Waves of Inspiration Collection. I love exploring all the ways you can use a stamp to create different techniques.

In this case, the Two-Tone technique uses two complementary colors to create some depth (Balmy Blue, and Misty Moonlight) when added directly to the stamp. When the ink is applied using an Aqua Painter, you get an even more ethereal effect. Both variations of the same technique are worthy of some creative exploration — especially with this collection. Please check out my short Video Tutorial.

I applied ink using a Water Painter to create an ethereal wave effect.

NOT ALWAYS PERFECTION: We may strive for perfection — but it is not always what we get. We all make those mistakes or “boo-boos” when stamping. Rather than get flustered during my tutorial — I worked through the problem to give you some ideas on possible solutions to a very common stamping problem — the ink “halo” created from too much ink on a rubber stamp.

The ink “halo” created from a seagull stamp is somewhat camouflaged– : )
Another color combination — Pacific Point and Pool Party.

Every Chapter Stamp: Watercolor Pencil & Gilded Leafing Techniques

Spread the love!

This project was inspired by a professional challenge from my dear friend Amy Salib from “Make Something INC” — a fellow demonstrator. While perusing through the catalog…we both looked at the stamp and said, “I know what I want to do with this one…”. We laughed and didn’t want to share our ideas but rather wanted to challenge each other. What is possible?

We both agreed to buy the EVERY CHAPTER stamp set and challenged each other to create a card –not showing each other the final result– until we posted the card in the mail to each other.

I was really challenged to create a unique project. Here is the card I posted to Amy last week. It is a layered project using the EVERY CHAPTER stamp as the center image and layers of accents/embellishments using the Layering Designs Vellum, Gilded Leafing, and Watercolor Pencil coloring. Refer to my Video Tutorial for step-by-step instructions and then go to my ONLINE store for all the available products. Please seek Amy’s information (see photo) for her card information!

Clever Cats & Simple Stamping Techniques

Spread the love!

I LOVE these little cats! So clever! And only $17! Here are some ways to utilize the CLEVER CATS stamp set. CLEVER CATS is a photopolymer stamp set that is perfect for simple stamping. I list “simple stamping” tips and techniques that are easy using stamping tools.

The stamping tools I feature include the STAMPARATUS, DIE CUT MACHINE, embossing powders, SIMPLY SCORED SCOREBOARD, Stampin’ Pierce Mat, and Mini-Embossing Folders for these simple stamping tips and techniques.

Simple Stamping TIPS & TECHNIQUES

One of the simplest stamping techniques I know to create clear and crisp images is to use MOMENTO BLACK ink and THEN use clear embossing powder to add an extra layer of texture.

Best BLACK ink
For embossing…

STAMPARATUS

This is where the STAMPARATUS really pays off as a stamping tool. By using your Stamparatus you are guaranteed perfectly stamped images AND then you can use it to stamp VERSAMARK for perfectly embossed images.

Any simple stamping with PHOTOPOLYMER stamps for crisp, clean images isn’t possible without your STAMP & PIERCE mat!

Create Simple Backgrounds

Another simple stamping technique is to use MINI-embossing folders on either side of your card layer for added interest for a background. Something different that breaks up the monotony of just a plain embossed layer. Yeah…never be afraid to mix it up!

SU’s mini EMBOSSING FOLDERS are perfect for this technique. And the MINI-DIE-CUT machine was designed for little projects like this.

Elegant and Simple Edges

Keep it simple and elegant by scoring your layering edges using your SIMPLY SCORED SCORING TOOL. It’s very subtle…but makes a difference! And — it’s simple!

Simple FUN with WOBBLES

Keep it simple and add extra FUN by just adding a WOBBLE to an image. The WOBBLE really animates your card and it’s often unexpected. It’s easy and doesn’t add any extra bulk for mailing. Lastly, it’s the best embellishment for KID cards…but don’t rule out adults as well!

Acetate Panel Technique using ART IN BLOOM and the SOFT PASTELS ASSORTMENT

Spread the love!

Here is a technique for creating a unique “window card” using Versamark and the new SU Soft Pastels Assortment featured in the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog.

TIP: If you order a photopolymer stamp set from SU, the stamps are fixed between two window sheets. One is a thin acetate and the other is thicker. Remove your stamps and adhere them to the case — then you have the thick ACETATE sheet to use for this project. Otherwise, the window sheets are sold on page 136 of the Annual Catalog (142314).

I clean the acetate sheet with alcohol wipes to remove any dirt/smudges. Follow my Video Tutorial for all the steps.

Basic Steps:

  • Clean the acetate sheet
  • Use a Two Step Stamp set (outline and fill stamps) like the ART IN BLOOM set
  • Use your STAMPARATUS to position your stamps on the acetate
  • Stamp with STAZON Black permanent ink with the outline stamps
  • Stamp with VERSAMARK using the “fill” stamps
  • Choose colors from the SOFT PASTELS ASSORTMENT
  • Take a sheet of GRID PAPER (cut or folded)
  • RUB the chaulk on the paper until there is a pile of powder
  • Pick the powder up using a sponge dauber and then lightly apply to the VERSAMARK on the acetate.
  • I used a background piece of Whisper White cardstock that I stamped with Memento Black ink for the LEAVES and OLD OLIVE and SOFT SEAFOAM for suble background stamping
  • Mount the acetate on Dimensionals after you have framed with Basic Black cardstock
  • I used the layering Rectangle Stitched Framelit Dies to create my frame.
  • Pick a sentiment and mount in the corner. I used the dies from the COLOR & CONTOUR Bundle

Products needed are:

  • Window Sheet (repurpose from a SU stamp set)
  • Whisper White Card Stock (5.5″ x 4.25″)
  • Basic Black Card Stock (5.25″ x 4″)
  • Versamark, StazOn, Memento Black, Old Olive and Soft Seafoam Inks
  • Soft Pastels Assortment (Gorgeous Grape, Night of Navy, Poppy Parade, Daffodil Delight)
  • Rectangle Stitched Framelit Dies
  • STAMPARATUS
  • Sponge Daubers
  • Cotton Swabs
  • Adhesives: TEAR TAPE

Depth of Field & Wreath Building Stamping Techniques

Spread the love!

Here are several techniques shared last week during my weekly LIVE. I created background patterns using the WHALE DONE stamp set and the “depth of field” stamping technique.

I also demonstrated how to use a Stamparatus to create wreaths using the GATHER TOGETHER, BEAUTIFUL AUTUMN and PEACEFUL BOUGHS stamps sets.

View the video tutorial for tips and tricks and check out the gallery of final cards. Don’t forget to leave a comment and thank you for stopping by!

  • CARDSTOCK: Whisper White and Very Vanilla
  • STAMP SET: Whale Done

Gallery of Depth of Field Technique Cards

Smokey Slate, Shaded Spruce, and Granny Apple Green. I stamped with some SILVER metallic ink to add some glimmer to this card. But it’s a great pattern for a simple card! Base card is SHADED SPRUCE with BLACK.
Smokey Slate, Misty Moonlight and Shaded Spruce. Basecard is NIGHT OF NAVY and I used a Smokey Slate (retired) ribbon for accent.
Pretty Peacock, Shaded Spruce and Mint Macaroon. Base card is SHADED SPRUCE and I used the Seaside Textured (retired) embossing folder to add some depth to the pattern. You can barely see the WINK OF STELLA…but it adds some nice glimmer.
Night of Navy, Misty Moonlight, and Smokey Slate Inks. I love this background and it goes perfectly on POOL PARTY basecard with some SHEER RIBBON in POOL PARTY which is NOT retired!!! : )
Great layer of shapes on SHADED SPRUCE and mounted on Whisper White base card.

TECHNIQUE II: WREATH BUILDING WITH THE STAMPARATUS

  • INKS: Bubblebee, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake, Mint Macaroon, Gold Metallic Ink
  • STAMP SET: Beautiful Autumn, Gather Together and Peaceful Boughs
  • TOOLS: Stamparatus

Gallery of Wreaths using the Stamparatus

This is the first wreath I demonstrated on the video, I cut it down to create a regular card. I added so GOLD METALLIC ink accents and the base card is Early Espresso.
This is the second wreath I made in the video. I fussy cut around to create a wreath shape and mounted it on 6″x6″ Real Red card stock. I added some GOLD GEMS and GOLD trimmed ribbon as accents. I am very happy with this card.

Mosaic Background Technique

Spread the love!

This month I am featuring workshops using the Forever Greenery Suite of products.

During the assembly of workshop KITs, I created a table full of paper scraps!

What to do with paper scraps? #simplestamping Well, follow my Video Tutorial while I create some background paper using a piece of 8.5″ x 11″ Whisper White cardstock and a handful of scraps. Since the cards coordinated with the featured products…I used the background paper, mounted them on Whisper White Cards stock, embossed some with the TASTEFUL TEXTILE 3D Embossing Folder on a base card of Pear Pizzazz to create a stack of THANK YOU cards to tuck in the Workshop KITS as a special “thank you” for their business.

Please subscribe to my email and let me know if you are interested in my future workshops!

GALLERY OF FINISHED CARDS

My homework from the evening’s demonstration was to create cards! I really liked the water effect from the background stamping that drew me to the Lovely Lily Pad (retired) and the Seaside Notions (which is still available in the new catalog). Some other great stamp sets that would work include: Under My Umbrella, Sailing Home, Seaside View, Whale Done bundle, By the Dock and the cute duck from Field Journal (all in the new catalog).

Lovely Lily Pad Bundle stamped on Watercolor Paper in White Embossing Powder and inked with a Water Painter with Melon Mambo. Granny Apple Green is the color for both lily pad inking and base card. Lovely You for a sentiment on black card stock (white embossing powder). Gold thread and pearls for embellishments.
Gorgeous Grape to color lilies
I thought the gold thread looked like the water rings around the lily pads!
My absolute favorite. The seahorse is white embossed on watercolor paper and painted with Gorgeous Grape and Wink of Stella. Same with coral and shell in Calypso Coral and Mango Melody. I used tons of sequins from the retired Woven Threads collection to create a glittery seabed. I love how the tail curls around the coral!
The glitter makes me smile!

Magnolia Flower Color Techniques

Thumping Technique with Early Espresso, Garden Green and Crumb Cake.
Craft Foam color with Stamparatus
I used the die from the Ornate Frames to give a little frill to this softly feminine card and some pink ribbon edged in GOLD.

Spread the love!

Coloring with the Color Sprinkles

PIGMENT SPRINKLES

These are fun to use if you like just being loose and creative. I have predominantly used them for background coloring; but, wanted to come up with a more controlled technique for coloring a stamped image.

There are several coloring tools you can use: I recommend dampened Sponge Daubers (for each color), Aqua Painter, and Stampin’ Spritzer.

Using the various coloring tools there are several coloring techniques I demonstrate in my Video Tutorial.

Various Steps:

  1. Begin by stamping the image with either with Stazon Black ink or Clear embossing powder on Shimmery White Card stock
  2. Using the Sprinkles apply color on the image to the areas you want to color
  3. Using a coloring tool — a dampened sponge dauber (use one for each separate color) or aqua painter spread the pigment around the image to your liking
  4. You can also use the aqua painter and using the ink directly from the ink pads to color the embossed image (Mossy Meadow, Terracotta Tile and Flirty Flaming)
  5. Do the same as in #4 — but squeeze the ink pads and pick up the color from the back of the ink pad lid to create a soft muted image

Coloring with Craft Foam

WHITE FUN FOAM 9″ X 12″ X 1/16″ THICK (12 PCS/PACK)
Color:White

Here’s a coloring technique that can be adapted for coloring ANY stamped image! It’s fun and fast when using a Stamparatus and several stamping plates. View the Video Tutorial for all the steps and some tips and tricks!

Video Tutorial for EASY Coloring with Craft Foam

Mosaic Background Pattern

A room full of paper scraps can still inspire! I used all my scraps from cardmaking and cut using the Tailored Tag punch, and then textured the plain color (Mint Macaroon and Terracotta Tile) card stock with the Embossing Folder to create a mosaic of color and texture. For a little sparkly filled in with both Gold Foil and Gimmer paper.

Begin with a piece of Whisper White (here I cut to 5.75″ x 4″) and arrange the paper pieces in a mosaic pattern and adhere with all purpose glue. Once dry, cut with one of the Layering Rectangles. I cut two — so that I could make two cards and then layered on the final card with cardstock cut from larger rectangles.
