Social Distancing through Crafting: Simple Background Stamping

Spread the love!

If you are a member of my STAMPING FUSION FB Group — you can view the weekly FB LIVE videos I post on cardmaking. This week I demonstrated the “180 Degree Stamping” technique for creating backgrounds. This technique is “simple stamping” at it’s best. All you need is ink, paper, and stamps.

This technique is not only versatile; it also provides a solution to the dilemma “what color”? I often get the question from crafters that are experiencing “color paralysis” on how to break out of a “color” rut. This is definitely a technique you should try. I provide two ways to apply this technique:

COMPLEMENTARY HUEs: The technique involves taking two ink colors of the same HUE or COLOR Family. For my examples, I have chosen several…Blushing Bride & Petal Pink — Flirty Flamingo & Calypso Coral.

CONTRASTING HUES: Use two or more color combinations to create texture and contrast. I like to be inspired by the colors that are combined

The products featured to create these cards are several bundles featured in the MINI-CATALOG (which is live until JUNE) and include the Forever Blossoms, Parisian Beauty Bundles, the So Sentimental & Forever Blossoms (Sale-a-bration) and the Label Me Fancy Punch.

  • CARD STOCK: Whisper White, Calypso Coral, Petal Pink, Crumb Cake, Pool Party, Cherry Cobbler, Silver Foil
  • INKS: Gray Granite, Pool Party, Cherry Cobbler, Calypso Carol, Petal Pink, Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo
  • STAMPS/DIES: Forever Blossoms, Parisian Beauty Bundles, the So Sentimental & Forever Blossoms (Sale-a-bration item) and the Label Me Fancy Punch.

180 Degree Stamping Technique

  1. Prepare your stamping layer. I recommend Whisper White card stock cut at 5″x 3.75″ as the stamping layer (download my Proportional Matting Chart)
  2. Choose two ink colors same hue (see suggestions below) OR contrasting hue
  3. Sentiments are stamped with GRAY GRANITE
  4. Choose a LARGE or BACKGROUND Stamp and stamp with the first color
  5. Clean the stamp
  6. Reink the stamp with the second color of ink
  7. Turn the stamp 180 degrees from the first stamped image (a.k.a. upside)
  8. Stamp over the first image
  9. Finish with complementary colors for base and layered cardstock

Same HUE

Colors of the same HUE or color family are Blushing Bride and Petal Pink (Ink and Cardstock) with Whisper White (stamped layer). The So Sentimental Bundle of dies are used to create these layered labels.

Colors used are Flirty Flamingo and Calypso Coral paper and ink.

Contrasting HUE

I was inspired by the colors from the Parisian Blossoms DSP to create this background design; Cherry Cobbler, Pool Party and Petal Pink paper and ink. Card is embellished with Silver FOIL Effel Tower.

Collage Stamping

Inspired by travel…I stamped a “collage” using stamps from the set in several complementary colors and then gently distressed to look worn. The card is embellished with a tag that I made look like a luggage tag using the TAGS in BLOOM stamp set and the LABEL ME FANCY Punch. The entire video is on Stamping Fusion.
