This birthday or all occasions card was featured during Stampin’ Up!’s On Stage in Atlanta earlier this month. It was featured as a card swap using products from both the Occasions and Annual Catalogs. It is not difficult to put together and I have laid out all the products and assembly here:
STAMP SET:
BEST BIRDS stamps(141525)
BIRDS AND BLOOMS thinlets dies (141477)
OH SO ECLECTIC stamps and thinlets BUNDLE (145356)
PAPER:
NATURALLY ECLECTIC DSP (144185)
PEEKABOO PEACH (base card)
WHISPER WHITE
VELLUM
COLORING:
EMERALD ENVY INK
NIGHT OF NAVY INK
MOMENTO BLACK INK
STAMPIN’ BLENDS Non-Alcohol Markers (all the colors)
EMBELLISHMENTS:
5/8″ Burlap Ribbon
Metallic Thread (Copper and Silver)
Petal Passion Embellishment (OCCASIONS Catalog)
DIRECTIONS:
1. Standard card and layering sizes.
2. EMBOSS leaf image with thin-let (non-cutting) from the ECLECTIC LAYERS THINLETS on the DSP.
3. Stamp over embossed image with LEAF stamp with ink (Emerald Envy /Night of Navy) (and it creates the lines of the embossed image underneath).
4. Stamp the Bird image on Whisper White with Momento Ink.
5. Color and blend with Stampin’ Blends Markers (then cut out with dies from the Birds and Blooms set)
6. Take a swatch of burlap ribbon about 2.5 ” in length (cut the width of the ribbon in half lengthwise) and shred gently between your fingers to soften the fibers so they look like a branch. Spread and adhere to Mini-Glue Dots on the paper. You can also use the LEAF Punch (144667) with Vellum instead.
7. Pop the bird and sentiment (also from the BEST BIRDS set) upon Standard Dimensionals and add the Petal Passion embellishment.
Enter the wonderful world of make-believe, where unicorns prance against the iridescent glittered designs of the Myths and Magic Speciality Designer Series Paper between a glimmering rainbow and Dazzling Diamonds clouds by utilizing the Magical Day Bundle and the Rainbow Builder Framelits dies from the Sunshine and Rainbows bundle featured in the 2018 Occasions Catalog.
I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this bundle once I saw the DSP up close. It is so pretty and ethereal. I decided to pair it up with the Sunshine and Rainbows bundle in order to add a sparkling rainbow for a unicorn to follow to where dreams come true! Fun! Right? I guess I had my niece in mind when I created this card; but I have gotten so many positive comments from clients who love the fun and whimsy. It is not a hard card to make and I make it easy if you check out my HOW TO video (click link) for all the step by step details and tips.
How to Video:
Featured Products and Dimensions:
WHISPER WHITE :
Need a piece to stamp the UNICORNS and then color with STAMPIN’ BLENDS markers
Need a 5″ x 3 1/4″ piece to cut out the clouds with the Rainbow edgelits
BERMUDA BAY, BERRY BLISS and POOL PARTY or SOFT SKY
Choose either BERRY BLISS or POOL PARTY for your base card at 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″
Use BERMUDA BAY at 5 1/4″ x 4″ to layer and frame the DSP
I used every color from the Glimmer Paper to cut the Rainbow including some retired pieces i had from last year’s Sale-A-Bration. I would recommend adding GOLD, CHAMPAGNE, COPPER or SILVER FOIL to add shine. You can’t go wrong with anything shimmering or sparkly.
I also used the Dazzling Diamond (white) for cutting out the clouds.
The cross remains a symbol of hope and salvation. What is more universal than that?
For the last couple of years, I have perused the catalogs looking for the perfect stamp set that offered a pretty cross. I believe the The “Hold on to Hope” bundle delivers in both simplicity and elegance.
Truth be told; I was motivated to create a sympathy card and I always struggle with those. I want something simple yet profound. I don’t want to overwhelm the recipient with lots of fluff or do-dads…I’m never sure of the best color choice …something subtle. Yes, flowers are good; but not very masculine. For me it’s about “hope”.
That is what I find so perfect about this bundle. There are so many occasions that can use use this symbol of “hope” besides the obvious Easter Holiday or expression of sympathy. This is the perfect card to send to a friend or loved one facing a serious illness, personal loss or devastation. Perfect congratulatory cards for a Holy Communion, Confirmation, Wedding, Blessing, Ordination or Baptism.
So I wanted to present some cards that I put together that can be used for any of those occasions and I invite you to watch my video tutorial for some tips for putting the filigree cross together. I hope you will enjoy watching; and please leave me a comment! I love feedback!
WITH SYMPATHY:
Gold Edged Ribbon, Whisper White Card Stock, Gold Foil, White Glimmer Paper and Gold Embossing Powder and both the Sea Side and Perfect Petals Embossing Folders combine (in my mind) to make a simple yet elegant Sympathy Card.
All cards are standard size: 5.5″ x 4.25″ in Whisper White and using my Proportional Matting Guide; layers are 5.25″ x 4″ for Gold Foil and Calypso Carol and 5″ x 3 1/4″ in Whisper White to emboss or in Water Color Paper for Brusho Crystal Color.
EASTER BLESSING:
ALL ABOUT HOPE:
Simple Hope: Champagne Foil cross on Brusso painted background with coordinating Calypso Coral card stock.
I was inspired by the Pop-Up Mermaid Card that is featured at Michelle’s Craft Corner (check out her YOU TUBE video). Here is my tropical version which just goes to show how versatile Stampin’ Up! products can be!
VIDEO TUTORIAL:
PRODUCTS FEATURED:
INKS: OLD OLIVE, SOFT SKY, PEAR PIZZAZ , CAJUN CRAZE, CRUSHED CURRY, MOMENTO BLACK
PAPER: CALYPSO CORAL Base card (5.5″x 4.25″), WHISPER WHITE (front) (5.25″x4″), WHISPER WHITE (inside) (8″x5″–score at 4″), OLD OLIVE (for pop-up)
BIRDS: Stamped with Momento Black on Whisper White card stock and colored with STAMPIN’ BLENDS Markers (DAFFODIL DELIGHT, CALYPSO CORAL, SMOKEY SLATE, BERMUDA BAY) and a BLACK Stampin’ Write marker for the beak. They are not hard to fussy cut; but I used a Brother “SCAN-n-Cut” machine to cut a sheet of stamped images. I find it worth the investment for those stamps that do not come with dies/framelits. Leave a comment if you are interested in more information.
I cut the “sentiment” out with this label punch. I have used it with other cards featuring the Bird Banter set (see previous post) because it looks like a dialogue “cloud” from a cartoon strip! It you consider buying…check out the coordinating “Label Me Pretty” stamp set. And, remember…I think you can never have enough good punches! Worth the investment!
These stamps were used to create the background paper for the pop-up feature. If you go to my YOU TUBE video I demonstrate how to use stamps from each to create a tropical paradise reminiscent of the retired Botanical Garden DSP.
Here are all the other great products which I use regularly to create any projects:
I couldn’t resist the BIRD BANTER stamp set featured in the Occasions Catalog. Animal sets are a favorite and I loved playing with these characters. I own a Brother “Scan-N-Cut” machine that I use when SU does not offer dies or famelits for their stamp sets. I have found it great fun to stamp and color a sheet of figures and then cut them out for card making. What I love about this method is that I am able to cut a stack of figures I can use for a batch of cards or save later when needed. It saves time so you can focus on creating your card.
Though the stamp set comes with a branch…I used the Layered Leaves 3D Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder to create a textured background for my figure. Each of these lovely bird figures have such character and personality…I really didn’t want to crowd my card with all of them. So, I choose instead to use one per card and I was able use the coordinating ribbon from either the Annual Catalog or from the SHIMMER RIBBON PACK that is FREE during Sale-a-bration for accent. The colors Basic Grey, Bermuda Bay and Calypso Coral worked into the color scheme perfectly…such bright and happy colors for these tropical birds!
I added the Adhesive Backed Sequins (part of the Tutti-Fruiti suite) from the Occasions Catalog for a bit of color and sparkle. I love these sequins because they are so EASY to apply to your project…and I really hope SU adds some more products to the upcoming new catalog this spring.
I used the PRETTY LABEL Punch for the sentiment because it looked like a “dialogue” bubble. I hope you will consider this fun group to add to your craft room…I love ’em!

It is so easy! I couldn’t make a better video to demonstrate how easy it is to use the Beautiful Day stamp set combined with both the BRUSHO Crystal Colors and resist embossing techniques.
Begin with a piece of Watercolor Paper and Black Card Stock stamped with VERSA MARK for WHITE Embossing Powder embossed with a Heat Tool. Use the BRUSHO Crystal Colors (5 selections beside what is used in the video) and embellish with Baker’s Twine and Sequins for a perfect creation!

Valentine Day Cards: I am blessed to have found my best friend from junior high on FB a couple of months ago…when I learned that she had just been elected President of the Greater Sacramento Kiwanis Club and was putting together an event to make Valentine cards for Chemo patients and Seniors…I was eager to assist.
On a quiet Sunday afternoon, I sat down with a stack of REAL RED, WHISPER WHITE card stock and GLIMMER paper and some retired products from the Holiday Catalog and then selected some of my favorite stamp sets: BLOOMIN’ LOVE, FEATHER TOGETHER, and FALLING FOR YOU. I turned on my CLASSICAL music and just got into a frenzy of card making!!! It gave me a nostalgic feeling of when I was in grade school and would sit at the kitchen table with my Mom and younger brothers to put together Valentine cards for our classmates. Just the joy and chatter around the table as we licked stickers and glued glitter to our creations. Such a simple act of love and friendship. Of course, it has been years since then…but the feeling of good will from that experience still remains.
After posting my box of cards; I was thrilled to get a FB Post thanking me for my donation. I am so happy to have contributed and share a little goodwill and joy for those in need this Valentines Day! I was grateful for the chance to revisit those feelings of joy from my youth…thinking about my Mom and siblings…about what family and friends means. There is always enough LOVE to go around…it you spread it…it doesn’t happen automatically.
I hope that you have a wonderful day of love and good feelings…and can spread a little love to those in need on your Valentine’s Day as well! Blessings Kat
Sweet Soiree Product Suite: I fell in love with the SWEET SOIREE CAKE AND FRAMELITS BUNDLE while putting together a card for my best friends mother who just turned 80 this year. I loved the detail and femininity that these products offer; as well as the versatility as a card maker. I can make either a birthday (either big girl or for a little princess, an anniversary or wedding card)! Lots of possibilities and really gets your creative juices flowing!
My personal FAV was decorating the cakes with the SHIMMERY WHITE and SILVER Embossing Paste. While visiting a friend I was able to put on an impromptu “work shop” on using the embossing paste. I think once she watched me do it…she realized it wasn’t that hard…maybe a bit messy. I would recommend using a separate container with warm soapy water to wash your mask and palette knives to to keep them clean. I would also use paper towels as a surface to keep the paste contained.
Now, once you get over the initial “messiness”…I say…GO FOR IT…it’s fun! My friend Kathryn, grabbed paper and we just experimented with different colors of paper, added some ink to the Shimmery White paste and really got some neat effects! If you friend me on FB; I can share our stamping forum where we share ideas and cards…Soooo….jump in…and have fun! I hope that you will check out the video and can visualize all the possibilities! If nothing else…the SWEET SOIREE SPECIALITY Designer Series Paper and the rich colors is to die for. I love the colors featured (Berry Burst, Old Olive and Marina Mist and well as Calypso Coral) and the Silver foil accents. It makes it so easy to dress up any project.
I was challenged by one of my special friends/customer/hobbyist to create a shaker card with the Charming Cafe Bundle which is available in the 2018 Occasions Catalog (OC). Now, I found shaker cards a challenge when I was learning. The most difficult part was finding the right amount of adhesive products (and I was using the edges/borders of my Dimensionals) to build a shaker card. I would save them and when I had enough; then I could make a shaker card and feature it in a workshop. Then, Paper Pumpkin came out with a couple of projects that featured a shaker card and included these great adhesive strips! Wow! I collected all the extras from my old kits!
Finally, SU came up with these strips and I have to say that the SU Adhesive Strips is the game changer for making shaker cards! It makes it easy, convenient, and fast!
I purchased one pack for $8 and am still using the same pack! These are long lasting and a great value. Definitely consider adding them to your stamping “tool box”. If you have ever considered a Paper Pumpkin subscription; I would encourage it…I have gotten more good product “perks” from those kits and come in handy. It’s like double the value. They always give you enough to create the project with extra…like the adhesive strips. Just sayin’….
I haven’t found anyone feature a shaker card with the Charming Cafe bundle…but I loved how it came out (though the letter is a bit crooked..: ( ….

I have to admit that putting this birthday card together really intimidated me at first. However, after I sat down and worked with the products I figured out some tips and tricks that would make assembly much easier.
I also wanted to feature not only putting the card together…but the embellishments that make all the difference. I will also tell you that I gave the card featured here to my nephew for his 15th birthday…he loved it! It was a hit with his parents, siblings and grandparents for giving such a great and unique card! That in itself made all the effort worth it! I mean, isn’t that part of why we do this craft? To give joy to others? This card delivers!
Please watch my video — I will share some TIPS and the SECRET that will make this card easy and enjoyable to put together!

There are just some stamps and framelits that deserve to be revisited due to their classic elegance and versatility. For Valentine’s, Weddings, Engagements and all things “love” this set is my first pick.
Stamp ART Connection’s Bloomin’ Love with BRUSHO Technique Video
A classic interpretation…Real Red and Whisper White with Glimmer Paper and Pearls! The back ground is Red on Red with one of flower stamps. SOOOOO EASY!!
I love the combination of Crumb Cake and Whisper White Card colors. Though this is DSP, you can easily recreate this effect using a “stamp/stamp-off” technique on Whisper White card stock with Crumb Cake ink. Then add the heart embellished with White Glimmer paper and Pearls! Easy and fast!
This is one of my most popular PINTEREST saves! I took the Whisper White Heart and lightly sponged the leaves and flowers with Pear Pizzaz and Blushing Bride inks. Then embellished with flowers cut from a coordinating patterned DSP and Pearl accents. Use any embossing folder to create your background…I would recommend the new PETAL PAIR from the NEW Occassion’s Catalog!
Simple and easy….Rose Red and Pearls… (the corners were made with a now retired Corner Punch) but rounded corners are just as elegant if you don’t own that punch.
