This week I explored techniques and ideas for using products from the Tropical Oasis Suite featured from the Mini-Catalog. The more I played with the products; the more fun I had creating cards using several techniques. I wanted to find ways that the set can be used to get the best creative versatility.
More importantly, I feature several LIVE videos where I demonstrate techniques for coloring, die-cutting, and embossing. The techniques include the “die setback” technique, stamping without ink pads, inking embossing folders to create a shabby beach look and both inking, coloring with pencils & Stampin’ Blends to create beautiful hibiscus flowers.
Palm Tree Stamping
I was further inspired to use the stamp-stamp-off technique to create my background paper using Pear Pizzaz and Old Olive. The Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder provides the perfect texture on Soft Suede card stock. The palm trees are stamped on Soft Suede and cut using the dies as an embellishment with the Braided Burlap Trim. Lastly, the sentiment is stamped on a piece of Whisper White and cut out using the Stitched So Sweetly dies.
- TIMELESS TROPICAL BUNDLE, STITCHED SO SWEETLY Dies
- CARDSTOCK: Whisper White (base card @ 5.5″ x 4.25″), Whisper White layer (5.25″ x 3″) stamped with Pear Pizzazz, Soft Suede cardstock embossed with the Coastal Weave folder (5.25″ x 1.5″). Stamp palm tree on Soft Suede with Early Espresso ink.
- Use the Stitched So Sweetly dies cut out WW card cardstock for the sentiment.
- INK: Pear Pizazz, Early Espresso
- Coastal Weave 3D Embossing Folder
- Braided Burlap Trim and Old Olive Twine
- Distress the cardstock with the scissors
Stamp without a Ink Pad
What is more, is the utility of the Stamparatus as a great tool! The Stampartatus is used to stamp several layers of color using Stampin’ Write Markers in Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Garden Green and Call Me Clover I’ll show you how to stamp a realistic image using markers. Stampin’ Blends in LIGHT Pool Party provides the soft sky silhouette. I used standard card dimensions: Base card in Calypso Coral (5.5″ x 4.25″), Crumb cake (5.25″ x 4″) with distressed edges and Whisper White (5″ x 3.75″)
Die Setback Technique
I’m excited to present a technique whereby you are guaranteed to get more versatility from your dies. This easy technique frames the stamped image by ‘setting back’ the stamped image. The Stamparatus is critical to aligning the images to ensure a perfect cut.

Hibiscus Coloring Techniques
To start with, I want to present several coloring options for creating colorful tropical flowers. Here I present both both ink, watercolor pencils, and Stampin’ Blends techniques.
To begin with, stamp image with Calypso Coral then color with Stampin’ Blends in Daffodil Delight and Flirty Flamingo…blending the colors. Use Early Espresso and Black pencil to shade the stamen.
In order to create this effect, you will need Watercolor pencils in the colors: DAFFODIL DELIGHT, EARLY ESPRESSO, PUMPKIN PIE, CALYPSO CORAL, MELON MAMBO, BLACK, GARDEN GREEN, AND OLD OLIVE.
