Living in Pensacola Florida is very much the grand south and having beautiful magnolia trees on my property is proof. So I was immediately drawn to this suite and I couldn’t resist this project!

If you loved my Butterfly Wreath…then try a ring of magnolias! I recommend viewing the Butterfly Wreath video before attempting this since there are many tips and tricks that apply to this project as well.

I think what makes this work is the Green and White vellum which creates a background for the blossoms. The MOSSY MEADOW leaves are carefully placed to add balance.

Directions:

• Good Morning Magnolia / Magnolia Memory Dies BUNDLE (151087)
• CARD STOCK: Whisper White, Window Sheet (6″ x 5″), Green Vellum (149101) (from the Perennial Essence Vellum Pack), Mossy Meadow, White Vellum.
• INK: So Saffron, Early Espresso Ink Pads
• PUNCH: Perennial Flower punch (149522)
• ASSESSORIES: 2 Ink daubers, Glue Dots, Ribbon.

Assembly:

• Magnolia Flower: Cut 10 small dies and 10 large die petals in Whisper White (this creates 5 magnolia blooms — 2 large dies cuts on bottom and 2 smaller die cuts inside).
• Wreath: Punch 5 White Vellum flowers (with either the Perennial Flower Punch or a flower punch)
• Punch 14 GREEN Vellum flowers with the Perennial Flower punch
• LEAVES: Take all the LEAF dies from the Magnolia Memory Dies and cut:
• 6 in Mossy Meadow (each die)
• 6 in White Vellum (each die)
• Take WINDOW SHEET and trim corners to make a circle
  • REFER TO MY BUTTERFLY WREATH VIDEO
• ASSEMBLE FLOWERS: Take So Saffron and an Ink Dauber to the center of the flower pieces and ALL of the flower centers (star like centers)
• Use Early Espresso and Ink dauber to the middle of the flower centers.
• With Glue Dots, assemble flowers (2 large with 2 small petals and one large/one small flower center)
• Curl the flower petals around a pencil and push the centers ends up.
• ASSEMBLE WREATH: Array green vellum pieces around the window sheet to cover and let some of the “leaves” stick out around the edge.
• Array the white vellum flower cut outs around the center of the wreath to soften the effect before adding the magnolia flowers.
• Place the magnolia flowers around the wreath (leaving a little space in-between to add the leaves)
• Add the leaves, alternating small and large and taking care to cover gaps between blooms.
• Save the solid leaves for last (use to accent) where there may be empty space.
• Add the white vellum leaves for accent (and ensure all the space is uniformly balanced).

Butterflies are just perfect for spring! I used the Butterfly Beauty Dies to create this wreath. I was inspired by Cheri Stojkovich’s watercolor coloring technique featured on Cheri’s Cards. Thank you Cheri for the inspiration. I wanted to take it to the next level and create something that I could hang on my window, place on a table for Easter dinner or give to a friend to cheer them up.

If you love layering and creating a wreaths…you will enjoy this project. One of the innovations I made was to use a WINDOW SHEET as my base for the wreath. This really worked well and allowed the project to remain and “light and airy” which is perfect for a butterfly wreath!

Products:

Butterfly Beauty Die (OC)

Card Stock:
-Shimmery White (1 sheet to cut 3 dies)
-Vellum (1/2 sheet to cut 1 die)
-Window sheet (7”x7”)
– Romance DSP
-Pear Pizazz, Mossy Meadow for foliage
– Foil Sheet (Lovely Lipstick to cut 1 die) OPTIONAL
Ink:
Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, Daffodil Delight

Tools:
–Big Shot
– Intricate plate
-Die Brush
– Aqua Painter
– Scissors
-Punches: Leave and Sprig (optional)

Adhesives: Glue Dots, Dimensionals (Mini)

Embellishments: Ribbon

DIRECTIONS:

•Cut Paper Pieces

–Die Cut: Using the Butterly Die and the Big Shot cut: –3 in Shimmery White –1 in Vellum –1 Foil (Optional)

•Use Die Brush or Paper Piercing Tool to remove all the pieces.

•Coloring

–Assemble inks (press middle) and open.  Ensure the lids are “inked” after pressing.

–Use Aqua Painter beginning with Daffodil Delight and color the inside of the butterfly

–Use Grapefruit Grove and color the portion of the wings moving out.

–Use Lovely Lipstick to color the edges of the wings.

–Color each of the three Shimmery White die cuts the same and let dry.

•Cut Foliage with Punches:

–Leaf Punch cut:

•15 Pieces from the Romance DSP

•12 Pieces from Pear Pizazz

•8 Pieces from Mossy Meadow

–Sprig Punch (optional) cut:  6 from Daffodil Delight

Card Inspirations

Once I created my wreaths….I fell in love with the color combinations and used the extra butterflies to create these coordinating cards! Enjoy!

I am always inspired to recreate the cards presented by SU’s Artisan Team and add my own creative twist! Using the HIS GRACE stamp set evokes the feeling of spring and reverence that is so characteristic of the Easter Season. This card was inspired by the card shown on page 30 of the 2019 Occasions Catalog. Don’t be intimated by the layers; let me show you how easy it is to put this card together!

I have provided the list of everything you will need as well as a VIDEO TUTORIAL:

• STAMPS: His Grace
• FRAMELITS: Cross of Hope, Stitched Shapes and Petals and More
• PAPER: Soft Sea Foam (card base 5.5″x4.25″), Highland Heather (cross cut out), Whisper White (filigree cut out) , Shimmery White (watercolor sentiment) and Floral Romance Specialty or Wood Textures DSP.
• NOTE: Paper dimensional are relative to the large oval, cross and dove..you don’t need a large piece of cardstock.
• INK: Memento, Daffodil Delight and Grapefruit Grove Classic Ink Blends.
• BLENDS: L/D Highland Heather, L/D Granny Apple Green (GAG), Light Crumb Cake.
• ACCESSORIES: Whisper White Flax Ribbon and CLEAR Wink of Stella (WOS)
• TOOLS: Stamparatus, Aqua Painter, SU Paper Snips, Die Brush and BIG SHOT.
• ADHESIVES: Dimensions (large and small), Glue Dots, Snail, Adhesive Sheets.

BASIC TECHNIQUE:

1. Stamp HIS GRACE image on DSP using the Stamparatus with Memento Black ink and color with BLENDS.
2. Using paper snips cut out a window around the stamped image.
3. Use BIG SHOT to cut background filigree using the PETALS AND MORE Thinlets in WW. Use Adhesive sheet on the WW cardstock BEFORE CUTTING. This will ensure proper placement and ease of adhesion during assembly.
4. Use Daffodil Delight and Grapefruit Grove inks with the AQUA PAINTER to create the watercolor sunset effect on Shimmery White Card Stock and then cut with largest oval of the Stitched Frames when the card stock is COMPLETELY dry.
5. Stamp and fussy cut dove in Memento Black. Color olive branch with GAG and dove with WOS.
6. Use BIG SHOT to cut out CROSS shape in Highland Heather.
7. Use Large Dimensionals to assemble the DSP stamped piece over the filigree pieces that have been adhered in advance. Use the Mini-dimensionals for the dove and cross.
8. REFER to VIDEO for how to place the White FLAX ribbon and other HINTS and TIPS.
